Hi, We’re the Digital News Media and We’re a Complete Mess Right Now
It's not you. It's us.
It's not you. It's us.
According to a detailed new report, what seems to be going on behind the scenes at First Look Media right now is a perfect example of what happens when people who think the Valley is actually an ivory tower from which to look down on the rest of humanity try to corral a roomful of honest-to-god journalists.
They're dropping like flies.
Taibbi appears to be taking the high road.
What a fucking mess.
On a personal level, I won't bullshit on this: I'm glad Taibbi left First Look. From the beginning I felt like he was going there to die.
Yes, Glenn Greenwald's husband is the first recipient of the Press Freedom Litigation grant money.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation posted a lengthy, glowing review of Glenn Greenwald's new book, No Place to Hide. The review totally failed to disclose was that the EFF received a $100,000 grant from First Look Media, whose premiere website is run by Greenwald.
Glenn Greenwald announced today that his employer, Pierre Omidyar's First Look Media, granted $350,000 to the Freedom of the Press Foundation. Wait until you find out who sits on the organization's board.
Taibbi's always aligned himself with the Greenwald/Scahill crowd, so this move shouldn't come as a surprise; Greenwald probably began trying to entice Taibbi away from Rolling Stone as soon as he came onboard First Look. As expected, he's helping to staff the place with people who can co-exist with him in terms of their anti-establishment bona fides. The problem here is two-fold.
There have been plenty of people who’ve taken Greenwald’s journalism to task and have done so in very strong terms but also in good faith. What those people typically get in return is a fusillade of snide tweets labeling them “cultists” or otherwise impugning their credibility and motives.
An email correspondence between Glenn Greenwald and a fan has revealed that his new site, 'First Look Media' is essentially a more sophisticated version of Glenn Beck's gold flogging site, 'The Blaze'.
We're learning more about the new venture, First Look Media, by Greenwald and Omidyar. In a nutshell, there will be not one, but two business under the umbrella.
