In the wake of the Trump administration’s truly horrific policy of separating immigrant children from their parents, Fox News’s ethno-nationalist in chief Tucker Carlson found a way to attack his favorite target: elitist liberals who are the real culprits in this appalling scandal.
The multi-millionaire conservative, himself the product of the East Coast’s finest private schools, believes that elitists care more about immigrant children than they do about Americans.
“This is one of those moments that tells you everything about our ruling class,” said Carlson contemptuously. “They care far more about foreigners than about their own people.”
“It’s not just illegal immigrants who are separated from their children,” said Carlson. “The majority of American citizens in prison have minor kids they’ve left behind.”
“Their families have been separated by force by our justice system because they committed a crime. So in that way, these kids are just like the kids you’ve been watching on television today. The difference is of course they’re Americans, so no one is spending $35,000 a year a piece to make sure they’re okay.”
Get that? It’s OK to rip immigrant babies away from their mothers while breastfeeding and lock children in cages because criminals go to jail in America.

“A lot of people yelling at you on TV don’t even have children,” Carlson went on. “So don’t for a second let them take the moral high ground. Their goal is to change your country forever. And they’re succeeding, by the way.”
In other words, America is becoming filled with brown children who don’t look like you, so it’s OK to lock them in cages. The real (white) Americans are the victims because non-Christian elitist don’t have children or believe in nuclear families.
You have to give it to Carlson. The man works night and day to figure out how to package racism and xenophobia into intellectually acceptable commentary, and finds a way to turn the most racist, most appalling Trump scandals into attacks on liberals. In Carlson’s fictional world of rampaging immigrants destroying white, Christian, America, every issue can be turned into a referendum on immigration and liberal elites. According to Carlson, Trump may be a buffoon, but he is protecting America from brown people, unlike liberals who want to irreversibly change the country so that they can get more people to vote for Democrats/feel good about themselves etc, etc.
Carlson believes the outrage over the treatment of immigrant children cannot have anything to do with genuine feelings of empathy — it must be to do with liberal hatred towards white Americans. This despite the fact that many prominent conservatives are equally horrified by the policy:
I'm pretty sure none of us horrified by the separation of children from parents at our border care more about foreigners than our fellow citizens. But if the idea we should strive to treat foreigners decently is to be an object of scorn, I'll wear that scorn as a badge of honor. https://t.co/8IUtanAhiG

The government should know how bad this looks and how innocent children are actually suffering. That kind of scenario is unacceptable to most Americans as exemplified by former First Lady Laura Bush’s withering criticism. https://t.co/F4PKL00xLS

I’ve written much about the unique danger Tucker Carlson poses to the country and continue to believe he is the most singularly toxic figure in the media today, bar perhaps only Sean Hannity. His rationalization of racism and ethno-nationalism is basically a cynical ploy to exploit white Americans and further divide the country for his own gain. He provides intellectual protection for Donald Trump’s disgusting racism and normalizes his insane behavior because it helps protect his own elitist status.
Carlson has risen to new heights of wealth and power in Trump’s in America for obvious reason. He presents himself and other white Christians as a persecuted minority to great applause from Trump’s racist base, and he now wields real political influence in the country. As the Republican Party folds under the weight of Trump’s nationalist movement, Carlson’s xenophobic views now constitute mainstream conservatism in America. Carlson clearly likes his new found status and is willing to foment race wars in order to keep it.
Carlson hates liberals, immigrants and minorities not because they threaten to “change your country forever.” He hates them because they threaten to change his position in this country forever.
