On Sunday, Kayla Moore, Roy Moore’s wife, posted what is supposed to be a letter from 50 Alabama pastors in support of Moore against the evils of the liberal media and establishment Republicans and other “Oh woe is me” persecution nonsense that the right gobbles up like ice cream on a hot summer day:
“You can know a man by his enemies, and he’s made plenty – from the radical organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and the ACLU to the liberal media and a handful of establishment politicians from Washington. He has friends too, a lot of them. They live all across this great State, work hard all week, and fill our pews on Sunday. They know him as a father, a grandfather, a man who loves God’s Word and knows much of it by heart, a man who cares for the people, a man who understands our Constitution in the tradition of our Founding Fathers, and a man who deeply loves America. It’s no wonder the Washington establishment has declared all-out war on his campaign.”
Curiously, the 50 pastors listed are the same exact 50 pastors that endorsed Moore’s run for Senate. You’d think that a few of them might distance themselves from Moore as his past action come back to haunt him. While most of Moore’s supporters are eager to vote for him even if they believe his molested a 14-year-old girl, it’s hard to believe that 100% of them are on board the kiddie touching train.
AL.com has confirmed that at least one of them wasn’t even asked about the letter:
After the letter was published on AL.com, Tijuanna Adetunji of the Fresh Anointing House of Worship in Montgomery, said she was not contacted about the letter and did not give permission for her name to be used.”
I was not asked about this story or allegations,” Adetunji said.
Since the list is identical to the one used previously and there does not appear to be a physical letter, just a post written on Facebook, it’s not much of a stretch to imagine that Mrs. Moore simply cut and paste the list, adding it to a post she wrote herself.
She may have (unjustly, it appears) assumed the unwavering support or she may not have cared. Either way, it seems unlikely this will bother the majority of her husband’s supporters in the least. They’re already hard at work justifying child molestation as consensual and biblical. What’s a little dishonesty between persecuted white conservative Christians in Trump’s America?
