White House Approves Climate Change Report Directly Contradicting Trump’s Official Stance

In a telling sign of how utterly chaotic, dysfunctional and idiotic the Trump White House is, 13 federal agencies unveiled today what the New York Times called an “exhaustive scientific report” that states humans “are the dominant cause of the global temperature rise that has occurred since the start of the 20th century, creating the warmest period in the history of civilization.”

The report of course is not idiotic, but the fact that it was approved for release by the White House shows just how insane the Trump administration is given it does not officially accept the scientific consensus on global warming. Trump believes it is a Chinese hoax and has officially pulled the United States out of the most important international climate change agreement in history. Former oil tycoon Scott Pruitt, now the head of the E.P.A has claimed said man made CO2 is not the major cause behind global warming (it is), and Energy Secretary Rick Perry believes that that “the science is out” on the human cause of climate change (it isn’t). The Times report went on:

Over the past 115 years global average temperatures have increased 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit, leading to record-breaking weather events and temperature extremes, the report says. The global, long-term warming trend is “unambiguous,” it says, and there is “no convincing alternative explanation” that anything other than humans — the cars we drive, the power plants we operate, the forests we destroy — are to blame.

The report was approved for release by the White House, but the findings come as the Trump administration is defending its climate change policies on several fronts. The United Nations convenes its annual climate change conference next week in Bonn, Germany, and the American delegation is expected to face harsh criticism over President Trump’s decision to walk away from the 195-nation Paris climate accord and top administration officials’ stated doubts about the causes and impacts of a warming planet.

Why the White House endorsed this hugely important paper is mind boggling given it contradicts everything they stand for, but then this schizophrenic behavior is the norm, not the exception. While the report is heartening to those who already know just how urgent action on climate change is, no one should expect the Trump administration to act on this ‘new’ information. Truth and reality have been obliterated under Trump, so even when it officially accepts the science behind climate change, it doesn’t accept the underlying process behind science itself. Rigorous research, deductive reasoning, and the rules of evidence mean nothing to the clowns who have hijacked America’s government, and the only way to get them to act on the gravest threat facing humanity is to remove them from power and let the adults join the rest of the planet in fighting for our future.
