President Trump, a man who has now told well over 1,000 documented lies since he took office in January, was recently caught out lying about donating money to the father of a fallen soldier, and is so dishonest his entire administration works 24/7 to walk back his lies, is apparently shocked at the “dishonesty in the media”. Speaking to radio host Chris Plante on Tuesday, the president said:
“Actually, dishonesty in the media is one of the things that surprised me the most. I thought after I won, the media would become much more stable and much more honest. They’ve gone crazy, CNN is a joke. NBC is a total joke. You watch what they report, it bears no relationship to what I’m doing. But the media is absolutely dishonest and frankly, I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”
Of course Trump’s statement about the media being dishonest is again another lie. He offers no proof of the media’s dishonesty other than his word, which is about as reliable as a North Korean nuclear weapon test. While Trump has occasionally managed to get others in his administration to verify his nonsense for the sake of keeping him calm (Rex Tillerson was forced to deny calling him a “moron”, but only through a State Department spokesman), Trump’s lies are so blatant and so frequent that fact checking is rarely ever needed any more.
Trump lied about cancelling Puerto Rico’s debt. He lied about President Obama not calling the families of fallen soldiers. He lied about the Democratic Congresswoman who claims Trump told the grieving widow of a soldier killed in Niger that “I’m sure he knew what he was signed up for”. How do we know he lied? Because Trump never, ever tells the truth. This is a man who averages roughly 5 false claims a day — a rate that is now increasing rapidly. So you can’t take anything he says seriously — ever. Literally anything that comes out of his mouth is a lie, so when it’s his word against anyone not in his immediate circle, you know it’s almost certainly not true.
Trump may be genuinely be shocked at what he sees as the “dishonesty in the media”, but it is because he is now delusional to the point of clinical madness. Trump can’t seem to grasp the fact that those reporting on his lies aren’t the ones doing the lying — a fact that should, along with all the other terrifying behavior he is exhibiting, frighten the goddamn life out of you.
