Breitbart.com is outraged by Hollywood rape culture in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, so outraged in fact that they’ve started a ‘Livewire’ on the front page of their site to highlight stories about women suffering in the industry:
Coming from the internet cesspool of white nationalism, virulent misogyny and all things pro-Trump is a bit like North Korea hosting an event on the respect for human rights. Because of course Breitbart’s stellar record on defending women is well known, routinely running articles like this:
Breitbart’s attempts to highlight rape culture in Hollywood would actually be a good thing if it wasn’t, you know, on Breitbart. This is after all a site that almost single handedly got serial sex abuser Donald Trump elected to president and has done precisely nothing to highlight rape culture anywhere else, and has even attempted to downplay it on college campuses. Former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopolous, who was responsible in many ways for putting the Alt Right site on the map, was once removed from a protest march against rape culture for holding up this delightful sign:
Breitbart is using the Harvey Weinstein scandal as a huge distraction tool to deflect attention away from the man they’ve dedicated their ‘journalism’ to defending. The logic goes something like this:
Hollywood liberal Harvey Weinstein donated to Democrats and hung around with the likes of Hillary Clinton (and Donald Trump, but that’s irrelevant of course). Therefore liberals and the Democrats support rape culture because Hollywood is supposedly liberal, and Harvey Weinstein worked in Hollywood, and Harvey Weinstein is a rapist. This is somehow comparable to directly working towards electing, and voting for a sexual predator who was taped saying he would grab women “by the pussy” because he was rich and famous. See how similar they are?
Amazingly, Breitbart is still up and running after being thoroughly exposed as a vehicle for smuggling white nationalism ideas into mainstream America. It’s latest wheeze is yet another attempt to trigger liberals and perpetuate hatred of other, cynically masked as a noble fight against rape culture. Will advertisers continue funding it?
