Fringe Left Goon HA Goodman Uses Republican Talking Points on Gun Control

I’ve written many times about HA Goodman, the gadfly on the progressive movement.  Before he became Bagdad Bob for Bernie (as Bob Cesca so aptly put it), Goodman supported Rand Paul, Jim Webb and Martin O’Malley, all the while insisting that Clinton couldn’t win the primary because of her emails. And then when she did win the primary, he voted for Jill Stein, embraced WikiLeaks, and now spreads insane conspiracy theories on his Twitter, his website, and in his unreadable Amazon books, But Her Top Secret Emails and But Her Deleted Emails.

Goodman claims to be progressive, but he rarely advocates for progressive issues in his videos, except during his boilerplate spiel where he says he wants things like banning fracking and ending “perpetual counterinsurgency wars” (his words) before going back to whatever nonsense he’s promoting about the DNC, Seth Rich, or the Awan Brothers. Not once in any of his videos that I can recall (and I have watched a lot of them) has he ever advocated for sensible gun control reform, something which screams “progressive issue” if ever there was one. However, gun control is something Democrats want, and since HA Goodman hates Democrats, he’d rather engage in a straw man argument that we have seen Republicans use to kill this debate.

I planned to write about Goodman again, because I read But Her Top Secret Emails and found it a garbled, incoherent mess, less of a “book” than a transcribed version of his YouTube rants, using all the same talking points but without a single footnote to back them up, rendering the whole venture a waste of digital ink. Then I saw his video about gun control yesterday and I realized that Goodman has at last morphed into the Republican many of us have suspected him of being. He’s finally shown his true colors, and to prove it, I’m going to put quotes from the video next to quotes from Republican politicians after mass shootings (some GOP quotes will come from Vegas, but not all.) Here goes.

“The Vegas tragedy is not about guns. It doesn’t matter whether you ban all guns and you remove the 2nd Amendment from the Bill of Rights. That’s completely irrelevant…you don’t think an insane, crazy person…won’t find ways around an automatic weapon or any type of assault rifle?”- Goodman

“The shooter would have had his guns no matter what. Bad guys get stuff. If you disarm our country, that’s not the way to go.” – Republican Roger Williams, survivor of the shooting this summer targeting Representative Steve Scalise

“It has nothing to do with the weapon, nothing to do with the firearm, with the tool used to commit such evil.” – Goodman

“The Democrats continue…to say, when a mentally deranged person does what they do, it’s the gun’s fault, not the shooter’s fault.” – Republican Chris Collins

“It’s lucrative to have different factions politically, or different factions in terms of how people view the world…that could be one reason people are snapping, there’s less of a communal atmosphere in the United States.” – Goodman

“The finger-pointing, the tone, the angst and the anger directed at Donald Trump, his supporters, really then, some people react to things like that, people get angry as well, and you fuel the fires.” – Collins

“There are reasons [for people snapping] within our society…that have nothing to do with weapons or firearms…it’s about why somebody would engage in this type of behavior.” – Goodman

“One of the things we’ve learned from these shootings is often underneath this is a diagnosis of mental illness.” – Paul Ryan

“For some reason, people are snapping, whether it’s violent video games or violent movies.” – Goodman

“We have blood-soaked films out there, like American Psycho, Natural Born Killers, that are aired like propaganda loops on splatter days.” – NRA president Wayne LaPierre

“I think video games is a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people.” – Senator Lamar Alexander

“You can ban guns and then somebody will find a way to utilize knives, like they do in China, to hurt and kill as many people as possible. Or, god forbid, explosives…” – Goodman

“I refuse to play the game of ‘assault weapon.’ That’s any weapon. It’s a hammer. It’s the machetes in Rwanda that killed 800,000 people, an article that came out this week, the massive number that are killed with hammers.” –Louis Gohmert

What drove that person yesterday to do what he did? What drives people to do what they do in terms of committing evil?” – Goodman

“Now is a good time to shut up. Now is a time to contemplate the nature of human evil, to gather information, and to stay silent. – Republican pundit Ben Shapiro

“There’s no way to explain what took place…there’s a reason these things are taking place. We need to find out the reason, and not focus on how it’s done, but why it’s done.” – Goodman

“It would be premature to discuss policy when we don’t fully know all of the facts of what took place last night.” – Sarah Huckabee Sanders

HA Goodman, ladies and gentlemen, making the Purity Left look even more like the conservative right, one video at a time.
