As we wrap up for the holidays, I wanted to send a message of thanks to our readers who have been hugely supportive of our efforts here at The Daily Banter. It has been an exhausting, emotionally taxing year for everyone on the team — we have done our absolute best to cover the most terrifying presidential election in recent history and could not have done it without our readers.
After the election, I published an article outlining what we are planning to do about the incoming Trump administration, and the response was overwhelming. We gained hundreds of new paid members that will make a significant difference to our highly volatile economic model. The more paid members we have, the less pressure there is for us to get a large volume of traffic to ensure our ads pay enough to keep going. This means we can focus on the more important stories and spend significant time ensuring our reporting is of the highest quality. In the face of Trump’s post-fact reality, this is more important than ever, and a reader funded model for journalism makes us all the more powerful.
If we can triple our member base over the next 12 months, we are going to be almost completely free of advertising pressure, and we plan to do everything we can to prove to our readers that we are worth investing in (and if you already do, you can become a member here!).
Our readers make this place what it is. You comment, email us tips, share our articles and contribute financially — and we really couldn’t ask for more. So thank you from all of us here at the Banter, and here’s to 2017!
