Throughout his presidential campaign, Donald Trump told throngs of eager supporters that one of his biggest priorities if elected was to “drain the swamp.” The self-proclaimed billionaire even put forward a 5 step plan to make Washington great again, saying,“It’s time to drain the swamp in Washington, D.C., that’s why I’m proposing a package of ethics reforms to make our government honest once again.” However, within days of the election it became obvious that Trump had no such plans and now his advisers are confirming it.
During an interview on Fox & Friends Thursday morning, Trump’s disgraced former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said draining the swamp is not high on the president-elect’s list of priorities:
“If you had to put them in a chronological order, drain the swamp is probably somewhere down at the bottom. As opposed to getting tax reform done, making sure middle-class people have more jobs, making sure we’re renegotiating our bad trade deals, ensuring that we’re fixing ObamaCare.”

Lewandowski isn’t the only person letting the voters know that Trump has no intention of keeping his campaign promise. Earlier this week Newt Gingrich said the same thing in an interview with NPR and during one of his “thank you” rallies in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump made a similar announcement:
“We’re going to drain the swamp of corruption. Funny how that term caught on, isn’t it? I tell everyone, I hated it. Somebody said,’drain the swamp,’ I said,’Oh that’s so hokey. That is so terrible.’ I said,’Alright, I’ll try it.’ So, like a month ago, I said,’drain the swamp,’ place went crazy, I said,’Whoah, what’s this?’ Then I said it again, then I started saying it like I meant it, right? Then I said it and I started loving it. Let’s drain the swamp. I mean it’s true, it’s true. Drain the swamp.”
“Then I started saying it like I meant it.” He literally told his supporters that he never meant what he was saying about rooting out the corruption in Washington. He only said it because people “went crazy.” Sadly, his supporters bought into it, secured an Electoral College win for him and now they are stuck defending him against his own lies. Republican Party voters are so blinded by their hate for everything progressive that they have allowed themselves to be hoodwinked by a con man. It would almost be funny if it weren’t so damn pathetic.
