Just as President Obama used the “black card” to win the White House in 2008, according to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton is apparently now using the “women’s card” to take it in 2016.
“I think the only card she has is the women’s card. She has got nothing else going,” said Trump. “Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she would get 5 percent of the vote.”
This in the history of no woman becoming president, ever.
Nevertheless, Trump has never let reality get in the way of his rampant sexism, and saw fit to use his victory as an opportunity to let America know just what a disgusting pig he is. Intuitively though, Trump must understand that he has a better chance of morphing into an eagle than beating Hillary Clinton in the general election this year — a fact his entire party understands as they rally to block him winning the nomination.
While Trump has managed to convince ill-educated bigots that he is the best guy to lead the Republican party, convincing the voting population that he, a reality television star who brags about his penis size during presidential debates, is the man to lead the country is an entirely different story.
As Nate Silver wrote earlier this year, Donald Trump’s polling numbers paint a very, very bleak picture for the presumptive nominee:
Trump is extraordinarily unpopular with independent voters and Democrats. Gallup polling conducted over the past six weeks found Trump with a -27-percentage-point net favorability rating among independent voters, and a -70-point net rating among Democrats; both marks are easily the worst in the GOP field. (Trump also has less-than-spectacular favorable ratings among his fellow Republicans.)
And here’s how he matches up with Clinton:
His favorability rating is 33 percent, as compared with an unfavorable rating of 58 percent, for a net rating of -25 percentage points. By comparison Hillary Clinton, whose favorability ratings are notoriously poor, has a 42 percent favorable rating against a 50 percent unfavorable rating, for a net of -8 points. Those are bad numbers, but nowhere near as bad as Trump’s.
Silver also points out that “this is not just a recent phenomenon; Trump’s favorability ratings have been consistently poor,” and “his overall favorability ratings have been just about unchanged since he began running for president in June.” Or in other words, the majority of Americans think he is a massive dick and won’t be voting for him in November.
To overcome Hillary Clinton in the general election he is going to have to contend with a serious lack of support from his own spectacularly dysfunctional party, a far more unified Democratic party, and key demographics like women and latinos who actively despise him. Despite Trump’s bluster about everyone loving him, the polls definitively prove that they don’t.
In short, Trump is going to get his ass kicked by Hillary Clinton, and he knows it. And what better a way to end his grotesque intrusion into public life than a spectacular and very public beat down by a woman?
