Continuing our never ending series covering batshit crazy things that could only happen in Florida, this week it was confirmed that Matthew Riggins, 22, was killed by an alligator while hiding in a lake from police in Barefoot Bay last month.
Riggins and another man had apparently been on a home robbery spree on November 19th when neighbors in the area alerted the police. The men fled, but later that day, Riggins was reported missing to the Palm Bay Police Department.

The police reportedly heard shouting while searching for Riggins and the other man, but could not determine where they were coming from. Several days later, the remains of his body were found in the lake, and an 11 foot alligator “behaving aggressively”. The Alligator was euthanized and its stomach opened up where the rest of Riggins’ body was found.
A quick note to all you would be robbers in Florida: your state is basically a swamp filled with lots of deadly animals — none more so than the Alligator, an ancient, almost perfectly designed killing machine. So if you are on the run from authorities, remember not to hide in a goddamn lake.
