If you follow boxing, you learn very quickly that Latin fighters are the most respected in the world. America, Britain, and Russia are nations with rich boxing history and phenomenal champions, but none come close to the notoriety of Latin American fighters – a continent that has produced the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez, and Roberto Duran, and Carlos Monzon – legendary champions known for their extreme toughness and fighting pride.
So when Donald Trump announced his campaign for the Presidency and used his platform to smear Mexicans as “criminals” and “rapists” bringing drugs into the country, he should have expected a response that would be equally damaging to him.
But Trump is an idiot – a limitlessly greedy buffoon whose shameless self promotion is the only reason he has maintained his inherited wealth. So when Univision, the biggest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States, decided to stop telecasting Trump’s co-owned Miss USA pageant and severed all business ties with him, the orange haired mogul was left with his pants down wondering what the hell happened. Here was Trumps immediate reaction on Twitter:
Mexican gov doesn't want me talking about terrible border situation & horrible trade deals. Forcing Univision to get me to stop- no way!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 25, 2015
Of course there is no evidence that the Mexican government had anything to do with Univision’s decision to cut ties with Donald Trump, but then expecting to hear anything accurate from the man who spent millions trying to prove Obama was born in Kenya would be like waiting for the Westboro Baptist Church to condemn bigotry.
Univision’s entertainment division released a statement about Trump’s offensive diatribe against Mexicans, saying that: “at Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country…We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12 or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.”
Of course this won’t deter Trump from pursuing his goal to become President – and that is most definitely a good thing. It is guaranteed that Trump will continue to insult anyone who isn’t rich and white, and he will continue to lose business as his brand becomes so toxic companies won’t be able to work with him.
If Trump is stupid enough to believe that buying hotels with his father’s money qualifies him to become President, then the reality of campaign politics is going to be a very, very steep learning curve. Getting smacked down by the global Latin population is just the beginning of Trump’s 2016 adventure, and we can look forward to many more humiliating episodes.
