Gawker Media is an interesting beast. The network of sites that includes major brands like Gawker, Jezebel and Valleywag have their fingers on the pulse like no other publications online. They deal in gossip, snark, and the occasional bit of serious journalism that makes an entertaining and sometimes thoughtful reader experience.
But Gawker Media sites also engage in some of the most puerile garbage on the internet, some of which is becoming so cringeworthy they are in danger of becoming a huge joke.
Gawker ‘journalists’ are in the business of stalking news anchors who may be gay, crowd funding ‘investigative reports’ to uncover videos crack smoking mayors, and publishing malicious stories about celebrities guaranteed to cause immense suffering. Head honcho Nick Denton also seems to be relying on the formula of hiring viral content maestros to ensure no one reads anything serious on the internet ever again. It’s edgy and all that, but at the end of the day, completely fucking stupid.

Nick Denton once calledBuzzfeed ‘pointless’. Which it is. But then what is Gawker?
