VIDEO: Letterman On Gun Violence, ‘For The Love of Christ When Are We Going To Do Something?’

During a guest segment with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, David Letterman, whose political views have become more pronounced in recent years, went off on the inability of the United States to do anything about gun violence.

Letterman went on to say that he’s not opposed to guns, but that he supports some sort of legislation to mitigate the fact that especially children are victims of gun violence every day. Both Cooper and Letterman wondered why Newtown wasn’t a tipping point for sensible reforms.

The high point of the segment was when Letterman exclaimed, “For the love of Christ, when are we going to do something about this nonsense?” The audience erupted in applause and cheering.

And of course it did, not only because the audience respects Dave, but because most Americans — anywhere from 75-90 percent of them — support reforms such as expanding background checks to include gun show and internet sales. Sadly, however, the bottomless reservoir of cash available to the gun lobby has managed to silence popular opinion in the halls of Congress.
