David Wildstein Claims Chris Christie Knew About Lane Closures

The New York Timesreports that former Port Authority appointee David Wildstein has confirmed that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie knew about the lane closures while the massive traffic jam in Fort Lee was occurring.

Wildstein also said that he has physical evidence to back up his claim.

In a letter released by his lawyer, the official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s who was appointed with the governor’s blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.

“Mr. Wildstein contests the accuracy of various statements that the governor made about him and he can prove the inaccuracy of some,” the letter added.

This news appears to contradict Christie’s insistence that he didn’t know what was happening at the time and that he had nothing to do with the lane closures. The fact that Wildstein alleges that it was a “Christie administration order” flies in the face of the lane closures being blamed on the Port Authority or a so-called “traffic study.”

During Christie’s epic two-hour press conference earlier this month, Christie said, “I had no knowledge or involvement in this issue.” According to Wildstein’s allegations today, this is untrue.

Additionally, the letter from Wildstein’s attorney alleges that the Port Authority was involved in land deals connected to the Christie administration:

Commissioners of the Port Authority have been connected directly or indirectly to land deals involving the Port Authority, that Port Authority funds were allocated to projects connected to persons who supported the administration of Governor Chris Christie or whose political support he sought, with some of the projects having no relationship to the business of the Port Authority, and that Port Authority funds were held back from those who refused to support the Governor.
