Vitali Klitschko, the 6ft 7 WBC heavyweight boxing titleholder managed to almost single handedly defuse a volatile demonstration between anti-government protesters and police on Sunday in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. Klitschko, who holds a doctorate in sports science, is the leader of the political party Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform, and has spent many years campaigning for transparency and an end to political corruption in his home country.
A video on YouTube.com shows the boxer using a megaphone to quiet angry crowd members who were demanding the resignation of president Viktor Yanukovich.
“I am telling you, get back!” the 42 year old Klitschko shouted at the crowd. “You have no business here. Don’t fall into a trap!” Clearly in awe of the legendary fighter (in no small part due to his height), the crowd incredibly backed up.
Check out the footage below:
Klitschko has lost only twice in 47 prize fights, once to Lennox Lewis due to cuts, and once after injuring his shoulder against Chris Byrd. Klitschko has never been knocked down in his professional career and has knocked out 41 of his opponents.
