Last year, jazz pianist and producer Robert Glasper released an impeccably artful record through his hip-hop-infused project, the Robert Glasper Experiment. It was called Black Radio and it was hands-down one of the best albums of the year — a groovy, loungey, soulful celebration of both jazz and hip-hop, all brought together for the legendary Blue Note Records. It went on to win the Grammy for Best R&B Album.
Just one year later, Glasper’s Experiment is back again with a follow-up, Black Radio 2, and this time around they may have topped even themselves. The new record features guest appearances by Common, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Norah Jones, Lupe Fiasco, Snoop Dogg, and Emeli Sandé — and it’s cool, late-night, neo-soul loveliness from start to finish.
I sincerely can’t recommend this record enough.
Here’s the first single from it, Calls, featuring the awesome Jill Scott.
Chez Pazienza was the beating heart of The Daily Banter, sadly passing away on February 25, 2017. His voice remains ever present at the Banter, and his influence as powerful as ever.
