No one expected much from Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, a corrupt and vicious dictator who took over from his father a decade ago and has been brutally suppressing his people ever since. But Aliyev exceeded everyone’s expectations and released vote results from the national election an entire day full before voting had even started. And surprise, surprise, Aliyev won the ‘election’ by a landslide! (And as of today, Aliyev officially ‘won’ the election). According to EurasiaNet:
A mobile app offered by the country’s election authorities was meant to allow users to track the voting process, but, instead, it apparently posted final-results data — even before the October 9 election day — that showed incumbent President Ilham Aliyev soaring above all other candidates.
The app showed Aliyev winning with 72.76 percent of the vote – a remarkable achievement no doubt reflecting Aliyev’s ruthless treatment of dissenters, the media, and political opposition deep connection with his people…
