The Morning Banter: Government Shutdown Edition

The government is shut down, but the Banter keeps on rolling.  Here’s everything you need to know, want to know, and probably didn’t know about the Government Shutdown.  Anyone want to take bets on how long this will last?

The story that’s being heard around the world certainly isn’t being reported as if it’s happening elsewhere.  That’s why Slate.com went ahead and wrote this excellent piece on the Government Shutdown and how it would be covered if it was happening in any other country.

Google’s banner today marks the 123rd anniversary of Yosemite park which as of midnight was closed because of the government shutdown.  (H/T to Ashley Green for that tidbit of sad, ironic info).

The Washington Post has a handy chart detailing who’s working today and who’s furloughed in the wake of this Shutdown Crisis, complete with adorable clip art.  What more could you want?  A functioning government? LOL.

More from the Post, here’s everything you need to know about this government shut down.  Let me add one more bullet point to their list: THE TEAPARTY IS OUT OF IT’S DAMN MIND.

The Panda Cam may be offline, but don’t worry the zookeepers are still feeding the animals.  (Similar measures are being taken at Rock Creek Park Horse Center, which has also been forced to shut it’s doors in D.C. due to the Shutdown.)

Here’s what looks like a pretty accurate account of how the rest of the week are going to unfold if this Shutdown Crisis doesn’t get resolved soon.

BUT THERE’S GOODNESS HAPPENING TOO! Obamacare is in full swing!  Go get yourself some health care! It’s now your right! (And as someone who has previously not had health care  at times, it is wonderful. affordable. and downright necessary).  Open enrollment starts today, coverage will begin January 1st.  Eye exams for everyone!

Now let’s let David Byrne assuage our fears, yeah?  Don’t Worry About The Government.
