Dev Hynes is a British singer-songwriter who works under several different pseudonyms, one of which is “Blood Orange.” While he’s written and produced music for Florence and the Machine, the Chemical Brothers, and Solange Knowles, his own stuff is slowly becoming some of his best work: moody and evocative, owing much of its melody and rhythm to his willingness to mine his family’s upbringing in Guyana for inspiration.
Beautifully produced to the point where the sounds feel as if they rest on top of each other in airy layers, Hynes recruits singer Caroline Polachek and an old school 80s sax coda to top it all off and the result is nothing short of blissful.
Here’s Blood Orange’s Chamakay.
Chez Pazienza was the beating heart of The Daily Banter, sadly passing away on February 25, 2017. His voice remains ever present at the Banter, and his influence as powerful as ever.
