Floyd Mayweather is the world’s highest paid athlete, and the highest paid boxer in the sport’s history. Banking a cool $40, 870,000 for a relatively easy night’s work against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez last weekend, Mayweather will take home 15550 times more than the average worker in America makes in an entire year. The fight generated a record $150 million in pay-per-view revenue on 2.2 million buys, breaking the previous record of $136 million for Mayweather’s 2007 fight against Oscar De La Hoya (although De La Hoya took the lions share of the earnings).
Incredibly, Mayweather is set to earn even more from the fight – a projected $80 million based on the current PPV estimates. His final haul could even approach $100 million if PPV buys exceeds 2.5 million.
Mayweather’s total earnings this year are in excess of $80 million, putting his career earnings over the $350 million mark.
