The long-awaited release of the new Arcade Fire single and interactive video is the big music news today, no doubt about it. But maybe it’s befitting its reverent, almost uncomfortably intimate hush that the new Goldfrapp album also finally makes its way into the world, under all the Reflektor hype.
Lovely, moving, and often delivered in a tone that’s barely above a whisper, Alison Goldfrapp has tossed away the usual bag of techno goodies for Tales of Us and, along with her partner Will Gregory, has stripped the music down to its appropriately bare essentials. Each track is named after a person — save one, which is simply called Stranger — and almost all of it is emotionally devastating in ways that are difficult to put into words. It’s the kind of record that very slowly gets under your skin and stays there.
Here’s the first single from Tales of Us. This is Drew.
Chez Pazienza was the beating heart of The Daily Banter, sadly passing away on February 25, 2017. His voice remains ever present at the Banter, and his influence as powerful as ever.
