Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Beverly Hills Cop is coming back after almost 20 years:
Though it recently looked like the Beverly Hills Cop saga would continue on television, Paramount Pictures has begun moving fast on another movie. The studio has enlisted Eddie Murphy to reprise his role as Axel Foley, and they’ve set Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to write that script. That duo has done very well at the studio, with recent script credits that include Mission: Impossible–Ghost Protocol and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake.
If this is true, fans of the original will be praying the 4th installment doesn’t do what the 3rd did and nearly destroy the saga. Is it possible for Eddie Murphy to be funny again? BowFinger was the last movie the precocious actor displayed any type of recognizable humor, so it’s a big ask. The original Beverly Hills Cop was pretty damn good, so perhaps the nostalgia will bring back Murphy’s comic timing:
Ben Cohen is the editor and founder of The Daily Banter. He lives in Washington DC where he does podcasts, teaches Martial Arts, and tries to be a good father. He would be extremely disturbed if you took him too seriously.
