The onus of responsibility is clearly heavily tilted towards the Israelis for their atrocious behavior in Gaza earlier this year, but both sides can be blamed for the many lives lost in the crisis. A recent U.N report found both parties guilty of war crimes, yet predictably, Hamas and the Israeli government are refusing to accept responsibility.
Having said that, it must be remembered that Israel broke the ceasefire and illegally invaded the Gaza Strip killing over 1400 people, many of them civilians. For their role in the conflict, Israel should, and must be held accountable, particularly by the U.S who essentially funded the invasion. Hamas also must answer for its rocket attacks on Israel and extrajudicial killings, but when the proportional death toll is over 100-1, it’s pretty clear who is at fault.
