Sean Penn Uses Oscar Speech to Shame Homophobes

By Ben Cohen

The Daily Banter doesn’t usually post on anything to do with celebrities, Hollywood or the entertainment industry, but Sean Penn’s acceptance speech at the Oscars last night was worth writing about. Penn won ‘Best Actor’ for his portrayal of gay politician Harvey Milk in the film ‘Milk’, and used his acceptance speech to shame those who voted for Proposition 8. It was the only political speech of the night, and by far and away the best speech of the night. Penn is a tireless supporter of progressive issues, and a credit to his profession. It’s not often you feel actors are genuine about their ’causes’, but Penn is the real deal. Bravo.
