Reversing Bush policies may not be enough to create a more equal society, but it is a start, and Obama looks like he is serious about addressing the needs of working class America. The Huff Post reports that Obama has signed a series of executive orders that will empower unions:
Union officials say the new orders by Obama will undo Bush
administration policies that favored employers over workers. The orders
_Require federal contractors to offer jobs to current workers when contracts change.
_Reverse a Bush administration order requiring federal contractors
to post notice that workers can limit financial support of unions
serving as their exclusive bargaining representatives.
_Prevent federal contractors from being reimbursed for expenses
meant to influence workers deciding whether to form a union and engage
in collective bargaining.
We’ll see exactly how far Obama will go in terms of redistributing wealth, but right now, any move in that direction is welcome.
