Despite professions by neo-conservatives that the free market is responsible for serious economic growth, the truth is that central planning and government initiative is responsible for the roaring power of western economies. Like most other huge industries, the internet was created by the government and paid for by the public through taxes. Once viable, it has been slowly sold off to private interests making it a haven for advertising and money making.
