Dinesh D'Souza, the convicted criminal and hard right's favorite token minority, has been doing his part to smear Christine Ford ahead of the Brett Kavanaugh hearing. He is now blaming her for being sexually assaulted, because she was potentially involved in "hookups and binge drinking" as a teenager:
D'Souza also retweeted a link to and article on cultofthe1st.blogspot.com to substantiate his argument:
It is important to note that:
1) D'Souza has no evidence Ford was a part of a "hookup and bing drinking" culture at high school, other than that some guy on Twitter named 'GManFan45' says she was, and a rambling blog post by 'Golfinggary5222' claiming Ford's school condoned drinking and promiscuity (the post is a comically ridiculous pastiche of photos from Holton-Arms yearbooks).
2) Even if she was a part of a "hookup and bing drinking" culture, this has no bearing on Brett Kavanaugh's attempt to sexually assault her. Men cannot rape women because they consume alcohol or don't subscribe to repressed Christian fundamentalist sexual norms.
The repulsive nature of D'Souza's suggestion that Ford was "asking for it" is also highly revealing. Many Republicans now seem to acknowledge that Ford's claim is legitimate, but are now arguing that it doesn't matter because Kavanaugh was only 17 at the time. Rich white teenagers of course cannot be held accountable for their actions, while black teenagers can. Donald Trump, for example, demanded that the black and Latino teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park in the 1980's should have been executed. The Central Park Five' were 14, 15 and 16 years old.
It would be more honest for partisan hacks like D'Souza to simply admit that they have an agenda here. For the most part, Republicans are engaging in a concerted effort to ensure Brett Kavanaugh gets through to the Supreme Court, and they are willing to go to any lengths to make it happen. If this means smearing a woman who was a victim of sexual assault, then so be it, even if they think she is telling the truth.
Ultimately though, D'Souza believes that teenage girls who drink and enjoy exploring their sexuality can be raped, and their rapists can go on to serve in the Supreme Court. This is the 'Moral Majority' and party of 'Family Values' in action, and they will go unpunished unless they are voted overwhelmingly out of office this November.
