Republicans Are Going To Pay Dearly For Trump's Family Splitting Policy

With the midterms only five months away, Republicans around the country are in full panic mode after the Trump administration decided locking children up in cages and separating them from their parents was a good political move.

House and Senate Republicans are now being forced into the extraordinarily difficult position of defying their new cult leader, or doing the right thing and condemning one of the cruelest policies the Trump administration has dreamed up in its 18 month existence. Many Republicans, to their credit, are beginning to speak out about the atrocity being committed against innocent children. But they are damned if they do, and damned if they don't given the policy is actually popular with Republicans:

As Republicans have learned over the years, they become irrelevant if they dare to offend their racist base. Trump reminds them of this daily, bullying them into submission by refusing to bother with political niceties and appealing directly to the red meat conservatives who love nothing more than watching brown children crying as they are forcibly removed from their parents.

Politico reported today on the crisis going on in the Republican Party as it continues to navigate the almost impossible waters Trump is making them sail in:

Even as the White House blames Congress for the crisis at the border, GOP lawmakers are struggling to craft a proposal that unites their own party, let alone one that can win bipartisan support and become law. And with no congressional solution in sight, Hill Republicans worry that Trump’s immigration crackdown could swamp their success on the economy and overshadow all the things they want to run on in the midterm elections.

“It’s something, as a dad, that bothers me. It’s something that bothers a lot of people,” said National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Steve Stivers of Ohio. “I’m sure on its own, if you ask people, it probably doesn’t look good.”

“It’s a tragedy, what is going on. And it is not helpful to the president achieving his goals on immigration reform,” added Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine). “It’s not helpful in any way.”

Republicans are already gearing up for an election they already fear given the train wreck of the Trump presidency thus far, so this new development is only making matters much, much worse. Of course this is what they should have expected given they enabled him from the get go and refused to stand up to him when it would have mattered, so they only have themselves to blame.

If there is a silver lining to this truly horrendous story, it is that the cowards who appeased the authors of this disgusting immigration policy will be voted out of office. Furthermore, should Democrats take back the House and the Senate, you can be sure they will do everything in their power to stop something as barbaric as this from ever happening again.

Unfortunately, thousands of children have already paid the price for this Republican cowardice, and anyone associated with it must forever live in shame for the suffering they have caused.
