The Right Is Freaking Out Over The "Crossfire Hurricane" Story

They're so desperate to make it disappear, they're spinning faster than an actual hurricane.

We're in the middle of another right wing meltdown over the latest revelation that the FBI was investigating Trump's treasonous collusion with Russia by the summer of 2016, well before they had even heard of the Steele Dossier. After a drunken George Papadopoulos blabbed to the Australian ambassador that the Russians were attacking the United States and that the Trump campaign was in on it, the FBI flew out to London to talk to the ambassador and got the ball rolling on "Crossfire Hurricane":

The agents summarized their highly unusual interview and sent word to Washington on Aug. 2, 2016, two days after the investigation was opened. Their report helped provide the foundation for a case that, a year ago Thursday, became the special counsel investigation. But at the time, a small group of F.B.I. officials knew it by its code name: Crossfire Hurricane.

Anytime this information makes its way into the news cycle again, the right goes ape shit. It is a gospel truth to them that the Russia investigation was kicked off by the "tainted" Steele Dossier and therefor anything Mueller finds doesn't count. Putting aside the nonsensical logic of this claim and the fact that the dossier is not, in fact, tainted, you can see why any information that threatens this narrative sends the right into a panic.

But it's not just that the right is trying to dismiss the report, it's how they're doing it that's disturbing.

BREAKING: New leaks reveal that Jim Comey sent Peter Strzok to London 90 days before the election, under the mission codename "Crossfire Hurricane" to try to frame Trump — Then Comey LIED about it to Congress and DOJ

Peter Strzok sent to frame the opposing candidate. "Crossfire Hurricane".
Bigger than Watergate. Like Jupiter compared to a grapefruit.

BREAKING: New leaks show that Jim Comey sent Strzok to London 3 months before the election, under the codename "Crossfire Hurricane" to try to frame Trump — Comey LIED about it to Congress and DOJ.

The left wont care but this is beyond dangerous and a massive abuse of power.

In other words, the right is so deeply immersed in an alternate reality that an article clearly showing the FBI was investigating Trump months before the election is considered "proof" that the FBI was framing Trump instead.

If you really want to dive down the rabbit hole, check out QAnon and the gibberish that is "The Storm", a fairy tale where all of the FBI's investigations are actually going to end in the arrest of Hillary Clinton and all of Trump's enemies. It's tinfoil hat garbage of the highest order except for the part where it has a massive following that will cheer if Trump ever does away with the rule of law and simply arrests everyone that hurts his feelings.

It would be funny if it weren't for the fact that when they smack face first into reality, they're going to consider Trump's inevitable removal from office a "coup" against "their" president. It won't matter whether it's by impeachment, being forced to resign in disgrace like Nixon, losing the GOP primary, or simply being stomped in the 2020 election. It won't matter how justified it is, how much evidence is produced or even how much Trump loses the election by. None of that will matter to the cult of Trump. They will "know" it's a coup because they "know" the Deep State has been working against Trump since before he was elected. And because they "know" beyond a shadow of a doubt that their country has been stolen from them by whichever boogeyman they believe in that week (it changes on a regular basis), they're going to become violent.

How could they not? They're angry, paranoid, stupid, incapable of rational thought, a lot of them have guns as well as delusions of overthrowing the tyrannical government and they're being irresponsibly goaded on by Fox News, Republicans, AM Hate Radio, and right wing hate sites in a display of recklessness that will come to define the modern conservative movement. Every time they have one of these collective mental spasms, it makes the bloodshed that much more inevitable.

"Crossfire Hurricane" is a catchy name (thanks Rolling Stones) but the thing that should be grabbing our attention is how dangerously delusional the right has become. Underestimating the depths of their disconnect from reality will be a fatal mistake for the country.
