President Trump, who is definitely not compromised by Russia in anyway, has delayed imposing additional sanctions on Russia that Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley had stated were on the way last weekend. Via HuffPost/Reuters:
U.S. President Donald Trump has delayed imposing additional sanctions on Russia and is unlikely to approve them unless Moscow carries out a new cyber attack or some other provocation, a senior administration official said on Monday.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Sunday that Washington was preparing new sanctions on Russia over its support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
“The ambassador got out ahead of things this time,” the senior administration official, who deals with the issue, told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
The Washington Post first reported that Trump had put a stop to a plan for additional economic sanctions on Russia.
The official said Trump was concerned that immediately imposing more sanctions, on the heels of last weekend’s U.S.-led strike against Russian-backed Assad, would interfere with his efforts to negotiate agreements with Russian President Vladimir Putin on combating Islamic extremism, policing the internet and other issues.
After the news broke that Trump had only wanted to expel 3 Russian diplomats instead of the accidental 60 his administration ended up booting out, it is abundantly clear that the president really, really does not want to get on Vladimir Putin's bad side. After the Russian state hacked America's democracy, used deadly chemical weapons to attack America's staunchest ally, then continued to support President Assad's heinous war crimes against his own people, one would assume that Trump would be incandescent with rage. Instead, it appears Trump is only angry with the people trying to punish Russia for radically destabilizing the planet.
There are three possible explanations as to why Trump is behaving like this:
1. Trump wants world peace and views escalating tensions with Russia as the biggest threat to mankind.
2. Trump believes Russia is not to blame for attacking American democracy, using chemical weapons on British soil, or backing Assad in his gruesome assault on the Syrian people. He is trying to find the real culprits and won't rest until they are found.
3. The Russians have a pee tape of him.
