Definitely Not Racist Trump Bars Haitians From Agricultural, Seasonal Worker Visas

“Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out,” Donald Trump reportedly said in his famed meeting on immigration earlier this month. He also referred to the predominantly black nation and other African countries as "shitholes" and asked those present why America couldn't get more immigrants from Norway.

After these comments were leaked Trump then declared that he didn't call those countries "shitholes" and was the "least racist person" ever. Oddly for the super non-racist Trump, he then decided to bar Haitians from agricultural and seasonal worker visas. Via NBC

The Trump administration is moving to prohibit people from Haiti — which the president allegedly insulted in a meeting last week — from applying for visas for seasonal and farm workers.

The Department of Homeland Security has given notice it plans to prohibit people from Haiti, as well as Belize and Samoa, from applying for H-2A and H-2B visas, which are temporary.

Those visas allow businesses to bring in workers from other countries. The H-2A visa is for agriculture and the H-2B is for non-agricultural seasonal work in places such as resorts.

The notice of which countries are eligible was to be published in the Federal Register on Thursday, but a copy was publicly posted online Wednesday per the usual process.

There appears to be no news of the Trump administration banning Norwegians from any type of work visa, making it clear it applies to countries deemed by the president to be undesirable (read black). On Tuesday on Fox News, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said: “What good does it do to bring in somebody who's illiterate in their own country, has no skills and is going to struggle in our country and not be successful? That is not what a good nation should do, and we need to get away from it.”

But according to labor economists, Haitian immigrants are hugely beneficial to the US economy. Quoting Michael Clemens, a senior fellow at the non-partisan Center for Global Development, the NBC report continued:

Clemens said barring Haitians from the visa will encourage illegal migration to the U.S. and hurt the U.S. economy.

"Haitian farmworkers on the H-2A visa that I have studied in Alabama added $4,000 to the U.S. economy per worker, per month," said Clemens, who is a labor economist.

Still think the president of the United States and his administration are not racist?
