In what should be a bombshell report but will undoubtedly change absolutely nothing, the Washington Post just published an account of how James O'Keefe's hilariously misnamed "Project Veritas" spent weeks trying to trap one of their reporters in one of their infamously dishonest sting operations:

A woman who falsely claimed to The Washington Post that Roy Moore, the Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Alabama, impregnated her as a teenager appears to work with an organization that uses deceptive tactics to secretly record conversations in an effort to embarrass its targets.

In a series of interviews over two weeks, the woman shared a dramatic story about an alleged sexual relationship with Moore in 1992 that led to an abortion when she was 15. During the interviews, she repeatedly pressed Post reporters to give their opinions on the effects that her claims could have on Moore’s candidacy if she went public.

If you're somehow still unfamiliar with O'Keefe or Project Veritas, the propagandists behind the "Planned Parenthood sells baby parts" lie, they secretly record their targets and then edit the video to the point of absurdity; making the target say anything they want, including the exact opposite of what they actually said. They then pump it out to right wing websites like Drudge and Breitbart who print all caps screaming headlines. Then it lands on Fox News, where the hosts proceed to feign shock, shock I tell you!, about a story they know to be a lie. In less than 24 hours, the lie is accepted as gospel among the reprogrammable meatbags of the right, Republicans start demanding investigations, and sometimes even the "liberal" media buys into the obvious bullshit.

The fact that O'Keefe and his band of assholes keep being caught lying doesn't seem to mean anything for some reason. Probably because everyone already knows that's the entire point of their operation and, as always, it's just rude to call right wing extremists out as the lying scumbags they are. It just wouldn't be proper.

But the more important takeaway from this story is captured perfectly by the Post:

The group’s efforts illustrate the lengths to which activists have gone to try to discredit media outlets for reporting on allegations from multiple women that Moore pursued them when they were teenagers and he was in his early 30s. Moore has denied that he did anything improper.

Exactly. They initiated this scam just hours after the original Washington Post story about Moore being a creepy child molester was published. That means they had zero interest in confirming the, ahem, "veritas" of the allegations but every interest in discrediting them to clear the way for Moore. As the weeks dragged on and more (and even more credible) witnesses came forward, the attempt to discredit the reporting continued, demonstrating an absolute moral vacuum operating at the center of Project Veritas. We already knew this but their flailing attempts to protect a child molester cements their status as worthless. The next time the "liberal" media gives Project Veritas any oxygen at all, they should be raked over the coals for catering to the epitome of fake news.

Moore might still win because Republican voters are just as morally bankrupt as Project Veritas and it's long past time we stop pretending that they're not. These are sick and twisted people that will lie and cheat to put a child molester in power. That's who they are now and that's how we have to treat them.

There are 343 days left to the 2018 elections.
