Last week, Rep. Ted Yoho made an interesting remark while defending House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes after a series of questionable actions involving the White House grounds and classified documents. Yoho said, "You have to keep in mind who he works for. He works for the president and answers to the president." Yoho would later walk back those comments - he claims he "misspoke" - because Devin Nunes most certainly does not work for the president. He works for the American people who elected him. But Yoho's telling remarks weren't washing away, and today, Nunes found himself on the business end of anyone who gets too close to the president. CNN reports:

House intelligence chairman Devin Nunes announced Thursday he was temporarily stepping aside from leading the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 elections.

Nunes cited a series of ethics complaints filed against him alleging that he violated terms of discussing classified material following his clandestine meeting at the White House just over two weeks ago.

Unlike Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who was forced to recuse himself from investigating the president's connections to Russia - still a huge fucking deal, by the way -  Devin Nunes doesn't even seem important enough to have direct ties to Russia. (For now.) In fact, judging by his statement, he's simply a wide-eyed idiot who dove face first into a hail of bullets for the president because #MAGA, maybe? Who knows anymore?

“Several leftwing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics. The charges are entirely false and politically motivated, and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power. Despite the baselessness of the charges, I believe it is in the best interests of the House Intelligence Committee and the Congress for me to have Representative Mike Conaway, with assistance from Representatives Trey Gowdy and Tom Rooney, temporarily take charge of the Committee’s Russia investigation while the House Ethics Committee looks into this matter. I will continue to fulfill all my other responsibilities as Committee Chairman, and I am requesting to speak to the Ethics Committee at the earliest possible opportunity in order to expedite the dismissal of these false claims.”

In case you missed it, that was Devin Nunes still trying to make hay out of the Susan Rice unmasking story, which has already been proven to be nothing. If anything, the story has now become a politically volatile hand grenade that knocked Steve Bannon off of the National Security Council - McMasters ordered the Rice story shut down when it was first brought to him because, amazingly, somebody in this administration knows how things work. - and has left Nunes in his current state.

But don't worry, Nunes' replacement is another Trump loyalist who seriously thinks this Russian hacking business is much ado about nothing because Harry Reid hired mariachi singers in Las Vegas one time, and that's basically the same thing. You can't even make this shit up anymore.
