Trump's Secretary of Homeland Security Will Consider Separating Immigrant Children From Parents

This is absolutely appalling.

Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly told CNN Monday night that in order to deter illegal immigration, he would consider separating immigrant children from their parents. Claiming the move was done to deter immigrants from using dangerous networks to enter the country illegally, Kelly said he would consider doing "almost anything" to stop it.

"If you get some young kids, who manage to sneak into the United States with their parents, Department of Homeland Security personnel are going to separate them from their moms and dads?" Wolf Blitzer asked him.

"We have tremendous experience dealing with unaccompanied minors," Kelly replied.

"Yes, I am considering, in order to deter them moving along this terribly dangerous network, I am considering exactly that" Kelly replied.

"They will be well cared for as we deal with their parents."

The notion that Kelly is considering this solely to ensure the safety of wannabe illegal immigrants is completely absurd. This would be like getting rid of food stamps to ensure no one was getting free food when they could pay for it. You don't come up with the most ruthless, inhumane policy imaginable for the benefit of those already suffering terrible hardship -- it simply makes the situation all the more horrible.

Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration in America is becoming increasingly militaristic, and the measures the administration is willing to take are becoming so devoid of human empathy that the country is transforming into something unrecognizable. The United States has a long history of being a safe haven for immigrants and refugees fleeing poverty and war in search of a better life -- a history and reputation it should be incredibly proud of. But with Kelly's latest revelation about the lengths to which the Trump administration will go to to stop immigrants entering the country, that reputation is about to disappear, along with its standing in the civilized world.
