Dear Evangelical Christians: Donald Trump is Pro Choice and Always Has Been

Today, Trump tweeted this out in support of the Right to Life march on Washington:

For those familiar with Trump's incessant flip flopping, this is yet another example of his astonishing ability to lie at any given moment without a hint of shame. Because despite Trump's new found religious beliefs (that happened to coincide with his run for the White House) and his pro-life stance that has made him a favorite with evangelical Christians, the president has actually long been pro choice.

During the campaign, Trump famously took five different positions on abortion in three days -- a clear sign that he was simply tailoring his beliefs to whoever he was talking to (or in other words lying through his teeth). But before he ran for office, Trump was incredibly clear about his beliefs on a woman's right to choose. Here he was back in 1999 on Meet the Press explaining to Tim Russert why he was adamantly pro choice:

Trump transformed his position on abortion when it became politically expedient, and amazingly millions of evangelical Christians seem to believe him. And this despite the extensive trail of pro-choice statements and deeply un-Christian behavior (like cheating on all of his wives, worshipping money, mocking the disabled and scapegoating refugees).

But then what constitutes Evangelical Christianity in America today is so far removed from anything Jesus Christ spoke about that it really isn't all that surprising its followers are buying into Trump. While there are no doubt many genuine, well meaning Evangelicals appalled by Trump, the majority voted for him, in a sign that their religious beliefs are little more than vile identity politics disguised as spirituality.

So to all you Evangelical Christians giddy with excitement about Trump's presidency and having 'an ally' in the White House, remember this: Trump is not a Christian in any meaningful sense of the word, has always been pro-choice, and is using you to advance his vile political ambitions.

In other words, he's playing you for idiots.
