Trump is being stood up at his own inauguration and he really really wants you to know he doesn't care. Honest!

Donald Trump’s inaugural committee is having no problems finding celebrities to attend his inauguration because that’s not who the committee is looking for, Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn said Tuesday.

“Not at all,” Epshteyn, the inaugural committee communications director, told CNN. “You know, this is not Woodstock. It’s not Summer Jam. It’s not a concert. It’s not about celebrities. As Donald Trump tweeted himself, it’s about the people. That’s what we’re concentrated on.”

Donald Trump is one of the most shallow people on the planet. He's obsessed with how people perceive him at all times. His children must always wear suits. His wives (and girlfriends) must always be young and pretty. His home must always be ostentatious. He loves nothing more than to be seen with celebrities because it shows how awesome he is.

Knowing this, the idea that Trump is not foaming at the mouth that all the A-listers (and B-Listers) are essentially boycotting his inauguration is laughable. You can almost hear him grinding his teeth as he expands his enemies list. The public humiliation of only being able to get the Rockettes and a C-list singer or two is not something Trump will be able to forget.

But, in keeping with his shallowness, Trump can't admit that he's angry so he's having his minions affect an air of disdain for the very celebrities Trump has been pursuing his entire adult life. We saw this at the convention in July when Trump promised a star-studded spectacular and ended up with Chachi. Trump's surrogates insisted that it wasn't a big deal that no one worth paying attention to showed up.

But it kind of is a big deal. That no one is willing to be seen supporting Trump speaks to his deep and wide unpopularity. It's a visual representation that Trump won with a minority of voters, a fact that Trump has been furiously denying. Trump is entering office as possibly the most unliked president in the country's history and his barren inauguration will be a reminder to the world that he has the exact opposite of a governing mandate.

To a man as petty and vainglorious as Trump, this will be an insult he will never forget. The question is how will he use the power (illegitimately) given to him to exact his revenge.
