Newt Gingrich Basically Admits Trump Lied About Wanting To "Drain The Swamp"

Has any president-elect broken this many campaign promises so quickly?
Newt Gingrich

Please give me a job! My book sales are failing!

Since Trump won his illegitimate election, he's spent his time getting into twitter fights, going on an ego-boosting victory tour and breaking just about every single campaign promise he made.

He's not building a wall. He's not "locking her up". He's not repealing Obamacare on day one. And now, he's not even going to "drain the swamp", a promise that was one of his biggest applause lines:

Gingrich told NPR's "Morning Edition" that he was told Trump “now says [the phrase] was cute, but he doesn’t want to use it anymore.”

Gingrich, who has been a close adviser to Trump, said he likes "drain the swamp" because it “vividly illustrates the problem, because all people in this city who are the alligators are going to hate the swamp being drained.”

“But, you know, he is my leader and if he decides to drop the swamp and the alligator I will drop the swamp and the alligator,” he added.

Aside from the fact that Gingrich is desperately auditioning for a high level job in Trump's cavalcade of horrors masquerading as an administration, this is just more evidence that Trump's voters are the biggest suckers in the world.

Trump's voters believe that he's going to cut through all the red tape and "fix" the economy. But with a Cabinet filled with billionaires and millionaires, the economy is going to direct an ever-increasing amount of money to the 1%. Income inequality will worsen and the economic recovery that was finally starting to reach the average worker will come crashing to a halt.

Big Money no longer has to buy government, it is the government. So much for draining the swamp.

It's unclear that Trump's marks will care about this latest betrayal since all the other ones have yet to dampen their enthusiasm for the bread and circuses. But sooner or later, they're going to notice the bread is missing from their tables and the circus is getting boring. The question is how much damage will Trump and the Republicans do to the country while they're distracting the mob that voted them into power?
