Joss Whedon's Super PAC, Save The Day, released its second ad on Monday and it's a hilariously brutal look at what the "weather" is going to be under a Trump presidency.
Keegan-Michael Kay as the weatherman cheerfully intones:
Well Jim, we are seeing a heavy wave of denial coming in from both coasts, trapping a high blood pressure front right in the heart of the country. Now, down south, that's gonna push civil unrest back to the mid to early 60s.
It gets progressively darker from there, culminating in a sweet release from "the rise in both temperature and existential misery" by way of a nuclear holocaust "that should take out all sentient life on the continent and we can look for that within the first hundred days."
The punchline is a morning show host that breaks down crying only to be berated by Key (still in his upbeat weatherman voice), "Tammy, you voted for Jill Stein, you thoughtless ass! Now suck it up like the rest of us!"
Here's the spot (and keep watching after the credits...):
Jill Stein voters will, of course, complain that they're being bullied into voting for the lesser of two evils but the stakes are too high to indulge their childish fantasy of moral purity.
The bottom line is that voting for Jill Stein or Gary Johnson is a cheap cop out. It allows liberal voters to pretend they're not responsible for the results of the election even as they abrogate their responsibility to their fellow Americans.
They have every right to do that, of course, but that also means they don't get to lecture anyone on what it means to be a progressive. They'll have abandoned their belief in the greater good because it was easier to be a thoughtless ass.
