Donald Trump is Against Renewable Energy Because Wind Turbines "Kill Eagles"

You have got to be f*cking kidding.

Anyone considering not voting for the Democratic nominee for president this November might want to think about whether they'd like their descendants to live beyond the next 50 years.

Lest you think this is being hyperbolic, please consider Donald Trump's proposal for America's energy policy should he become president of the United States. From the New York Times

Donald J. Trump traveled Thursday to the heart of America’s oil and gas boom, where he called for more fossil fuel drilling and fewer environmental regulations while vowing to “cancel the Paris climate agreement,” the 2015 accord committing nearly every nation to taking action to curb climate change.

Laying out his positions on energy and the environment at an oil industry conference in North Dakota, he vowed to rescind President Obama’s signature climate change rules and revive construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring petroleum from Canada’s oil sands to Gulf Coast refineries.

Given the earth is careening towards catastrophe due to rapidly escalating temperatures, laying waste to environmental regulation and expanding America's reliance on oil and gas would ensure an extinction level event sometime in the near future. Of course we are already in the process of eliminating life at an unprecedented rate, so Donald Trump assuming control of the biggest polluter on the planet would speed it up at a rate future generations would likely be unable to reverse

“We’re going to deal with real environmental challenges, not the phony ones we’ve been hearing about,” said Trump during his speech -- indicating he does not believe global warming is actually occurring. This position is so ludicrous given the overwhelming scientific evidence, Trump might as well be proposing science students learn that the earth is flat as part of their curriculum.

During his speech, Trump outlined why he is against renewable energy sources, telling the audience that solar energy was too expensive to invest in and that wind turbines are responsible for killing eagles.

"Wind is very expensive," said Trump. "I mean, wind, without subsidy, wind doesn't work. You need massive subsidies for wind. There are places maybe for wind. But if you go to various places in California, wind is killing all of the eagles."

"You know if you shoot an eagle, kill an eagle, they want to put you in jail for five years. Yet the windmills are killing hundreds and hundreds of eagles. One of the most beautiful, one of the most treasured birds — and they're killing them by the hundreds and nothing happens. So wind is, you know, it is a problem."

Yes ladies and gentlemen, this actually happened. The Republican nominee for president stated that he is against renewable energy because he's worried about wind turbines hitting birds.

This would be funny if the future of all life on planet earth wasn't at stake. And sadly, it is.
