Sarah Palin Goes After Bill Nye's Science Credentials, Forgets She is an Idiot

Can someone please shut her up?

Speaking on a panel at the premiere for a right wing propaganda documentary 'Climate Hustle', Sarah Palin inexplicably went after Bill Nye the Science Guy over his lack of scientific credentials.

“Bill Nye is as much a scientist as I am," Palin told the audience that had gathered to watch the documentary that claims rising carbon emissions are beneficial to the planet. "He’s a kids’ show actor. He’s not a scientist.”

Firstly, Bill Nye has a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Cornell -- so yes, he is actually a scientist. Secondly, Bill Nye accurately conveys overwhelmingly accepted current scientific thinking on issues like climate change, so it is of little consequence whether he is a scientist or not (and again, he is).

Thirdly, Sarah Palin is an idiot, so she has no business commenting on issues that require a fairly high degree of intellect. Remember, this is a woman who believed she was qualified to become Vice President of the United States because she could see Russia from Alaska, thought North Korea was America's ally, and has severe difficulties formulating full sentences, let alone comprehensible policy positions.

But of course her degree in communications and the fact that her dad taught science to 11 year olds makes her an authority on issues like global warming.

“The science is kind of getting thrown out of the window in discussions about changes in the weather,” Palin said on the panel. “It’s something that our candidates should be talking about and giving us their view on and hopefully acknowledging that it needs to become in the science community less political. Otherwise, it leads us to believe that so many things then coming from the scientists could be bogus. If this is bogus, what else are they trying to tell us and control us around?”

If by bogus, Palin means completely true, then she has a point. Let's look at what all those heavily politicized organizations like the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Medical Association and the American Meteorological Society are saying about this issue (via NASA):

American Association for the Advancement of Science

"The scientific evidence is clear: global climate change caused by human activities is occurring now, and it is a growing threat to society." (2006)

American Chemical Society

"Comprehensive scientific assessments of our current and potential future climates clearly indicate that climate change is real, largely attributable to emissions from human activities, and potentially a very serious problem." (2004)

American Geophysical Union

"Human‐induced climate change requires urgent action. Humanity is the major influence on the global climate change observed over the past 50 years. Rapid societal responses can significantly lessen negative outcomes." (Adopted 2003, revised and reaffirmed 2007, 2012, 2013)

American Medical Association

"Our AMA ... supports the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s fourth assessment report and concurs with the scientific consensus that the Earth is undergoing adverse global climate change and that anthropogenic contributions are significant." (2013)

American Meteorological Society

"It is clear from extensive scientific evidence that the dominant cause of the rapid change in climate of the past half century is human-induced increases in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons, methane, and nitrous oxide." (2012)

But then again, what would they know about science?
