In stark contrast to the events of just 24 hours ago, tensions between peaceful protesters and the militant police in the city of Ferguson appear to be easing. Now that the Missouri State Highway Patrol has been ordered to take control of events in the town, Capt. Ron Johnson marched with protesters, and, cautiously speaking, it looks as though the worst could be over.
Jamil Smith, an MSNBC producer, tweeted the following iconic, chills-inducing photograph:
The contrast between events from last night versus tonight is striking, now that the St. Louis County and Ferguson police are no longer exacerbating the situation.
It's incredible the difference it makes when police response is appropriate rather than over-the-top and antagonistic. That said, not everyone is on board.
