Bill Weir is a damn good anchor and he was a stellar get for CNN. As of today, he's also an American hero.
Earlier today, the online cesspool of reactionary anger and resentment known as Fox Nation -- imagine a place where people too crazy even for Fox News can gather to bitch about those goddamn liberals -- tweeted out a story titled "Climate Doesn’t Cooperate With Al Gore’s Group’s Visit to Denver EPA Hearings."
The item concerned Gore's trip on behalf of his "Climate Reality Project," and highlighted how the group was handing out ice cream to people even though it was only 58 degrees out. This is exactly the kind of thing the people who gather at Fox Nation love to childishly point and laugh at, claiming that cooler summer temperatures in one city a mile above sea level proves that global climate change is bullshit.
Well, Weir wasn't having any of it. Because this is what he tweeted in response to the Fox Nation link:
Nothing from CNN yet, but keep your fingers crossed that he refuses to apologize. After all, there isn't one word of his statement that isn't true.
Update: Unfortunately, Weir did in fact apologize, which was to be expected. What's worth noting here, though, is that he only apologized for the language, not the general sentiment. For the record, "Willfully Ignorant Fucksticks" should be the subheader right below the logo over at Fox Nation.
Also, there's this entertaining little zinger:
