Washington, DC Is the Least Honest Place in the US

Washington, DC is not a popular place.  That's not really new.  For years I have been told that people "inside the beltway" are disconnected from the ordinary, hard working Americans that live outside of it.  New polling data released this week shows Congress' approval rating sits st 12 percent.  Not only do 83 percent of people think Congress is doing a bad job but 57 percent want to kick everyone out and start fresh.  Even President Obama's numbers have gone down and only 45 percent of the country like the job he is doing.  You can read more about that here.

It seems politics may not be the only thing to dislike about the nation's capital.  Washington, DC may also be the least honest place in the country.

In July Honest Tea conducted an experiment.  They set up unmanned kiosks with their tea in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  They set a price of $1 per beverage and relied on the honor system and watched who paid and who didn't.  The most honest states in the country were Hawaii and Alabama where 100 percent of the people who took a tea, paid for it. The least honest place in the nation turned out to be Washington, DC where only 80 percent paid.  Oh, and the company's CEO had his bike stolen on the day of the DC experiment.  It was stolen from near the Bethesda, Maryland metro (he rode public transportation to their kiosk in Dupont Circle).  Stay classy, Washington.

Other results (from Honest Tea):

· Overall, women are more honest than men (95% vs. 91%)—the same percentages in both our 2012 and 2013 tests.
· Unlike last year where redheads were most honest, in 2013 blonds were the most honest (95%) and followed by brunettes (93%) and then redheads (92%).
· The longer your hair, the more honest you are. People with short hair were 91% honest, vs. people with medium and long hair (93% and 94% honest, respectively).
· People in groups (96% honest) tend to be more honest than people on their own (91% honest).
