Jack Shafer on Jonathan Tasini's attempt to sue the Huffington Post:
Of course, the proper time to negotiate payment for an article is before publication, not years or months after the fact, something Tasini's solidarity-with-labor shouting can't erase.
Tasini has threatened to make Arianna's life a 'living hell', banish her from the progressive community and to 'picket her home' all in aid of getting some money he feels he deserves for all the blogging he did. It's actually pretty sad, and an indictment of how awful the state of the news media is that a professional writer would resort to this. Tasini is obviously desperate, but you have to feel a little sorry for someone whose trade has been made economically redundant. The lawsuit is laughable, but the situation Tasini and other journalists find themselves in is not.
