The Weak GOP Field - Now With Math

Nate Silver has a good look at the numbers that seem to back up the notion that the GOP field looks quite weak at this point going into next year's election. In national elections there are no gimmes (ask Al Gore), but President Obama seems to be in the right place opposite his possible rivals for the time being.

Data point: Sarah Palin's net unfavorable rating of -23 is surpassed in the last few cycles only by Al Sharpton (-30) and Sharpton was never a very serious contender back in 2003.

Run, Sarah, Run.
