Why is this not surprising?(via Raw Story):
Five Democratic members of the Senate Finance Committee who voted on
Tuesday to shoot down a proposed public option for the health care
reform bill — a measure which polls show is favored by 81% of Democrats
— are coming under close scrutiny for their ties to the health care
According to Intershame.com
— a site which aims to draw attention to misbehavior — those five
senators have collectively been the recipients of over $19 million in
donations from health care, pharmaceutical, and health insurance
companies over the course of their Congressional careers.
Worst of all, Max Baucus took an astonishing $8 million, making up almost half the insurance contributions of the 5 sellouts.
Why are politicians with deep ties to the industries they are supposed to be regulating allowed to determine policy? It is an insane political system that allows this type of overt corruption, and one that will inevitably destroy itself in the long run.
