The many tragedies of the 2005 atlantic hurricane season have been seared into our collective consciousness. However, even after Spike Lee's brilliantfilm "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts", some aspects of the story are only now making themselves felt. According to a report in the Nation covered by Democracy Now, a group of white vigilantees inthe neighbourhood of algiers point shot at least 11 african american men, some fatally. The authorities have made no investigations. Please do watch the Democracy Now film linked above. It is a sad sad business, but it needs hearing.
