Obama's pledge to embark on serious diplomatic efforts with Iran is a good reason to hope for a marked change in the status quo. The Bush administration has systematically ignored diplomacy in favor of brazen threats and overtly aggressive behavior, ruining any chance of meaningful compromise in the volatile region.
