The Extended Primary & Surrogate Effectiveness

One of the other good outcomes of this primary process without a repeat of the 2004 anointment is that the Democratic candidates have surrogates who won't be unprepared come this fall. In '04, a lot of the Bush folks were much fleeter on their feet in cable and broadcast appearances than the Kerry people (until Joe Lockhart and the ex-Clinton people came in towards the end). Sure, they're fighting each other, but we'll know who is good and who isn't when the nominee is chosen - and they'll do a better job against the GOP in all likelihood.
